Cancun turned out great. We got in 2 dives at Cozumel, 2 dives at Cancun and 2 dives in a Cenote (underwater cavern). The Cancun dive sites were surprisingly good for being so close to a big strip of developed shoreline. Really, next time I'd consider skipping Cozumel entirely and just stick to Cancun. However the cenote diving was really the best part. Tropical diving you can do just about anywhere but the cenotes are really unique. Cave diving for non-cave divers. Rays of light piercing the water, bat caves, under water stalagites and stalgmites. Really cool. We also visited some "traditional" sites such as the super Wal-Mart in Cancun plus we also took time to visit the Mayan ruins of Chichen Itza and "ecological park" of Xel Ha. Chichen Itza was, of course, well worth it. We got to climb the pyramid -- something that would never happen in the U.S. (due to liability issues). Xel Ha was surprisingly good. It's like a cross between a zoo, water park, an amusement park and Disneyland and Seaworld. We swam with the dolphins which was short but worth doing once in a lifetime. Very cool. By the way, we arranged the Chichen Itza and Xel Ha tours through Brant's Entertainment Plus discount card which turned out to be a smart move. No hassle, good price and helpful people. |
